Cheers!!!

Last night was a night of celebration! A group of us went out for pizza and then hit up a great Irish Pub in Pozzuoli called Madigan's!!! We had a lot to celebrate... for one, my new job... second, Morgan's new job... and third, Dave's safe return from the states.

Morgan is actually going downrange also, but she is headed for Eygpt and will be living at North Camp! Below are some great pictures of the evening... whoo, there was lots of drinking by all!

The count down...

I got the offer this afternoon and I immediately accepted it. It is amazing how my life changed instantaneously! So, the count down begins and 45 days from now (give or take) I will find myself in the middle of the desert and calling Camp Arifjan my new home.

Ok, let me got back and explain what I am doing. About a month ago I was introduced to an awesome lady who works for Central Texas College here in Naples, Italy. We got to talking and she informed me of some great job opportunities located “downrange,” which for you non-Army people refers to the Middle East (mostly). After picking her brain and doing A LOT of research myself, I told her I was interested in trying to get one of the downrange positions. So, after some application hurdles and phone interviews, I was offered a Counselor Aide position at Camp Arifjan, Kuwait! I will be working with our soldiers and helping them achieve their scholastic goals. I will be deployed for 6 months and will be living and interacting with our troops on a daily basis. I will more or less confine to the Camp for security and safety reasons.

Now, around the end of January I am heading north to Germany to do training for my position as a Counselor and also to train with the Army in a mini survival course. Everyone who goes downrange has to complete this course, whether they are military or contractors. From what I hear, I will be rolling around in the mud, shooting weapons and I guess learning how to protect myself incase something happens.

So, I will leave you with that… my adventure has begun and I am completely excited! This blog is for me and for anyone who wants to share my experience with me. Hope you all enjoy!
